
Five Meraki Wi-Fi 6 Access Points Are Approaching End-of-Sale
Cisco has set December 31, 2026 as the final order date for the Meraki Access Points.

Cisco has announced end-of-sale and end-of-life milestones for five widely deployed Meraki Wi-Fi 6 indoor access points:
- MR36
- MR36H
- MR44
- MR46
- MR46E
The announcement does not mean these access points will stop working at the end of 2026. It begins a defined transition period that existing users and prospective buyers should consider when planning new deployments, purchasing spares or preparing for Wi-Fi 7.
Key lifecycle dates
Cisco published the end-of-life announcement on March 30, 2026.
The final date to order the affected products through Cisco point-of-sale mechanisms is December 31, 2026. The last possible shipment date is March 31, 2027, subject to product availability and lead time.
The published Last Date of Support is December 31, 2031.

End-of-Sale does not mean shutdown
End-of-Sale is the last date the products can be ordered through Cisco Meraki’s authorized sales channels.
It is not a date when installed access points automatically stop passing traffic or connecting to the Meraki Dashboard.
Meraki defines End-of-Support as the final date on which a product is affirmatively supported. Organizations with active MR36, MR44 or MR46 deployments therefore do not need to replace every unit immediately. The more important question is whether the remaining support window matches the intended life of the network.
Cisco’s migration recommendations
Cisco lists the following migration paths:

These recommendations point buyers toward Cisco’s newer Wi-Fi 7 portfolio. They should not automatically be treated as one-for-one replacements for every site.
Power requirements, uplink capacity, mounting, client compatibility and wireless design should still be reviewed before migration.
Which models are excluded?
Cisco specifically states that the following access points are not included in this announcement:
- MR28
- MR76
- MR78
- MR86
- C9124AX
Their exclusion from this notice does not guarantee an unlimited lifecycle. Buyers should continue checking official product-specific lifecycle documentation.
Should buyers still purchase these models?
Potentially, yes.
An affected Wi-Fi 6 access point may still make sense when:
- It must match an existing deployment.
- It is being purchased as a spare.
- The project will end before 2031.
- The current switching infrastructure is not ready for Wi-Fi 7.
- Consistency matters more than adopting the newest generation.
The purchase becomes harder to justify when the hardware will establish a new long-term wireless standard expected to remain active beyond the published support date.
Secondary-market inventory may remain available after Cisco’s End-of-Sale date. That availability does not extend the official lifecycle. Buyers should still evaluate condition, licensing, warranty responsibility and remaining support life.
Why it matters
The MR36, MR44 and MR46 families are widely used across enterprise, education, retail and distributed branch environments.
Cisco's announcement provides several years to plan, but it changes how new purchases should be evaluated. Remaining support life is now part of the cost calculation.
Existing deployments may continue operating, while new long-term projects may benefit from reviewing Cisco's recommended Wi-Fi 7 migration options.

Before purchasing one of the affected models, ask:
How long will the deployment remain active?
Does the December 2031 support deadline fit that timeline?
Is matching an existing environment more important than moving to Wi-Fi 7?

Would upgrading now prevent another migration within a few years?
An affected model may still be the right purchase. Its remaining lifecycle simply needs to be treated as part of the decision.
